Description
VINIFICATION
Mataro grapes from Frankland River were harvested on 7 April 2022 then de-stemmed and crushed to an open fermenter. Following fermentation and completion of malolactic fermentation, the wine was transferred to a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels, 20% new. The oak and fruit were in perfect harmony after 8 months in oak, the wine bottled early to retain freshness of fruit.
TASTING NOTES
The bouquet is bright and fresh, redolent with crushed cranberry and young mulberry, wreathed in light, soft wafts of sandalwood. On the palate, a rasp of bright blackberries and blackcurrants fuse neatly with notes of cherry cola and gentle forest bramble. As with the 2021 vintage, this wine presents a different face of Mataro, steadfastly refusing to be potentially dour and overtly ‘weighty’. This wine is lighter, airier, and extremely moreish indeed!
